Like all the Guides at About, I'm a real person. I welcome your interest and appreciate your visit to my site! There are thousands of resources here about all facets of travel to and in South America.

F.A.Q.

  1. Q. How do I get in touch with you?
    A. I welcome email with questions or comments about South America which you can email me at gosouthamerica.guide@about.com. I try to read all my email and I enjoy hearing from visitors to my site but I can't always answer every message due to the sheer volume.

Thanks for understanding that I can't always provide personal service in response to your questions.

  2. Q. How can I get a link to my Website about South America?
    A. My goal is to develop the Web's most useful information about South America. To that end I am constantly on the lookout for Web sites that bring the best to my visitors.

If you have a Web site devoted to any facet about South America, please submit it for consideration. Use the Submit a Link form and be aware that I may not process your request immediately.

Note: While optional, I do appreciate a reciprocal link!

  3. Q. Where can I talk to other people about South America?
    A. The South America for Visitors Forum! Check it out, see what others have posted, add your own message or start a new discussion.

If you're not already a registered user, you'll need to register, but it is easy and free.

  4. Q. I'd like to share a photograph or an article I wrote. Can I do this?
    A. Absolutely!

I encourage reader participation and involvement with my site. Please read and follow the instructions on the Participation Page.

The photograph(s) and article must be your own. I can only use them with your authorization. Naturally, you get the credit.

  5. Q. I'm planning a trip to South America. I'm nervous but excited. Where do I start looking for information?
    A. Look at all the information on the left side of the page! You'll see resources by country, by top destination, topic and major interest. Click on any of these for tons of information. Don't be shy. Dig deep.

Sign up for the free newsletter and read the posts in the forum.

  6. Q. Can you book or make reservations for me?
    A. Sorry, no. I'm not a travel agent, a group travel planner or a reservation agency. I'm simply a freelance writer writing for a mass audience.

However, you can check flights, reservations, car rentals, hotels and do your own travel booking by clicking on the Travel Reservations and Travel Bookings links on either side of the page. Buen viaje!

  7. Q. I'm going on a trip to South America. Are you interested in my trip reports?
    A. Yes, I am!

Please write me and we'll discuss the best way to accomplish this.

  8. Q. Do I need to know the language before I travel?
    A. It certainly helps! Every one appreciates a traveler who makes an effort to learn the language of their country.

If you have the time, take some lessons before you leave. Remember that Brazilian/Portuguese, not Spanish is spoken in Brazil. Scehdule an immersion language program right after you arrive, again if you have the time. Look for these under the Languages topic.

At the very least, get a dictionary or a handy sized phrasebook and practice the the things you'll need.

  9. Q. Should I be frightened of traveling to South America?
    A. The answer is ... depends.

Read Common Sense Safe Travel in South America, follow the news, ask questions, and decide for yourself.

  10. Q. I'd like to reprint one of your articles. How can I do this?
    A. I'm pleased that you found the information useful. I cannot grant you that permission myself, but you can request permission to reprint my feature by using this Reprint Request Form.
